Meaghan Nigra

MD

Dr. Nigra is a board-certified pediatrician with professional interests in the care of newborns, breastfeeding, and child development. She is developing expertise in cooperative hormonal and restorative reproductive medicine to holistically approach menstrual irregularities in adolescent girls. She credits her Georgetown mentor for her calm, light-hearted and collaborative approach that combines the child’s experience, the parents’ intuition, and her medical expertise. She is available to do home visits for children in Alexandria and hospital visits for newborns in the well-baby nursery at Inova Alexandria, Fairfax, and Fair Oaks.

Prior to joining MD for Life, Dr. Nigra cared for newborns, children, and teens in the office and hospital for a busy general pediatric practice in Falls Church. Over the next eight years she cared for thousands of healthy babies while honing her skills in breastfeeding medicine. She was also honored to accompany several newborns receiving palliative care for life-limiting diagnoses.

During Dr. Nigra’s pediatric residency at Georgetown University she was recognized for her outstanding teaching abilities with the String of Pearls award and the Intern Teacher of the Year award. She received her Medical Doctorate degree in 2010 from Georgetown University where she first met Dr. Marguerite Duane and her bachelor’s degree in biology from the College of the Holy Cross. Prior to medical school she spent two years with a Franciscan organization serving adults with HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Nigra grew up in a large Irish Catholic family in the suburbs north of New York City. She currently lives in Alexandria, Virginia with her husband Dr. Peter Nigra who is a dermatologist, and their four children. They are parishioners at the Basilica of Saint Mary and spend plenty of time at Irish dance events, flag football games, CYO basketball games and track meets.
